Samurai Fans Get Together
Since 1992 there have been several Samurai fan 'get-togethers'. I suppose the first official one would have been on February 29, 1992 when Queensland fans gathered at the Carindale Cinema in Brisbane to watch several of the old black and white episodes on the big screen. This was followed by screenings in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
In 2015 fans from all over Australia gathered at the home of Greg Newman to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Samurai in Australia.
In 2016 another gathering was once again held in Brisbane when a film crew from the Japanese TV program Rediscover Japan came out to Australia. They spent a whole Saturday afternoon interviewing Aussie fans about the Samurai phenomenon which had gripped thousands of us Aussie kids in the '60s. A special thanks to Samurai fan David Lovegrove who made contact with the Japanese program and made this possible.
Saturday December 10 2016 was a very special day when a group of 30 dedicated fans got to meet Koichi Ose (Shintaro) in Sydney for a meet and greet. He answered several questions that had been submitted by fans and we got to view many of his personal photos from the '60s.
Fans also met again in 2018 and in November 2019. They shared memorabilia and memories and also watched a few of the classic program on the 'big screen'. The day concluded with a meal at a local Japanese restaurant.
